The JP RM3G is a multi-gun natural terrain match that takes full advantage of the NRA Whittington Center's beautiful 33,000 acres with exciting and dynamic three-gun stages featuring rifle engagement out to 600 yards. Some stages are even situated around the ruins of the old coal mining town for an added measure of realism. During the event, most shooters stay in cabins right on the property making for a great atmosphere of camaraderie in the evenings.
With all the virtues of a national park, the Whittington Center is a spectacular backdrop with a variety of big game animals visible throughout the property with some being known to pass within 50 yards of the facility's lodgings. With roadside wild flowers, you might think you're in a scene from The Wizard of Oz. Every evening, the sun sets in the western edge of the valley, and you will often see a double rainbow after the brief squalls that come through in the afternoons.
In many ways, the JP RM3G is the continuation of a tradition embodied in the original Soldier of Fortune 3-Gun World Championship match that was held for 29 consecutive years. For the last 19 years of its existence, the SOF (WC3G) was run by the same crew, and maintaining that kind of tradition is a large part of the RM3G, right down to the JP Multi-Gun Expert pins awarded to the top 25% of shooters in each addition, which are a callback to the old SOF "expert pins." That kind of recognition was often more significant than anything from the prize table. It signified a level of commitment and expertise in our sport that only a handful of people achieve.
Speaking of tradition, 2012 was a very special since it marks the 10th year for the JP RM3G, and we will also be furnishing a special commemorative coin made for all those that have participated in the event for ten consecutive years. It also happened to be the 10th anniversary for the JP CTR-02, our first all-out competition-grade rifle that has become one of the benchmarks of tactical three-gun competition. We made a run of ten special anniversary edition rifles, one of which we gave away in a drawing to a lucky competitor at the 2012 JP RM3G.
Last year's RM3G featured a special long-range side match cosponsored by American Trigger Sports Network and Hornady Manufacturing Company. Shooters could take time out from the main match events to compete on the Whittington's silhouette range testing their skills at targets out to 1125 yards.
The state-of-the-art JP bolt action MOR-07 Rifle was furnished for the event with plenty of 6.5 Creedmoor ammo courtesy Hornady. All the shooter needed was to bring their ear protection and $5 for the entrance fee, 100% of which went to the Wounded Warrior Project.
The winners of the match received a $500 winner's purse donated by ATSN and JP along with a gift certificate for 40% off a new JP rifle!
