JP High Performance Bolt Carriers

JP Specialized Operating Systems

JPBC-1 7075 Ultra Light Low Mass Carrier.

JPLMB Low Mass Buffer System.

JP Low Mass Operating System

We now have our own purpose designed operating systems. For the no compromise competition rifle, the LMOS™ offers the most significant improvement in the felt impulse of the rifle as compared to any modification other than the addition of a compensator. The complete system consists of our new low mass bolt carrier and light weight buffer conversion kit. The ultra-light carriers are CNC machined from aircraft grade 7075 aluminum with a super hard coat anodize finish process for long term durability. By reducing the reciprocating mass, the overall impulse as felt by the shooter is further reduced and bolt velocity is increased without significantly affecting reliability. JP LMOS™ equipped rifles have virtually no reciprocating mass feel.

Reliability with these parts is excellent for competition use. I've been using this system for three years without a malfunction at a match. Most shooters that use and maintenance this operating system feel that it is a great performance improvement. Some shooters have even reported fewer unexplained flyers in their groups with the JP LMOS™ system.

JPBC-3 Stainless Low Mass Carrier with new QPQ black hard coat treatment.

The JP Low Mass Carrier is specifically designed for the new type of civilian machined receivers like ours and the DPMS High and Low Rider series that don’t have a dust cover or forward assist. Although it doesn’t have the forward assist serrations or dust cover notch, it functions in military type receivers. It just won’t allow the use of those features on the receiver.

We now offer a new stainless low mass carrier which offers similar feel to the ultra light 7075 aluminum carrier, but with the low maintenence attributes of the JP tactical carrier. It's a great compromise between performance and reliability. It will also function in military forged uppers with dust covers. It just will not allow use of the forward assist.

You may be wondering why our stainless carriers appear black. This is due to a new state of the art surface finish for stainess called QPQ (Quench, Polish, Quench). This is a five step process resulting in a rock hard surface with natural lubricity.

System Requirements: The JP ultra light Low Mass Carriers must be used with JP fire control components only and not standard M15 trigger systems. In particular, it must be used with our Speed Hammer and reduced power spring system. This part is designed as a “race gun” component to provide that extra edge in recoil control for practical and tactical rifle competition. It is absolutely not for use in police duty rifles or military applications where lives may depend on function. The7075 LMOS™ requires more attention and maintenance than our stainless carrier and requires ammo that is within dimensional specifications, delivering port pressure within the operational window of the system. However, it is the no-compromise race gun set up and the effect is nothing short of amazing. If you’re not the type willing to put up with the higher maintenance requirements or not meticulous about your reloading, the 7075 carrier is not for you. Order the JPBC-3 low mass stainless carrier and low mass buffer to expand the operational window but still deliver a very noticeable recoil impulse improvement. The JPBC-3 will function over any fire control parts.

New for 2008, the JPBC-4 AR-10 LMOS low mass stainless bolt carrier, finished in black QPQ hard coat for superior wear and natural lubricity. The JPBC-4 is featured in the JP LRP-07 but will improve the sight recovery on the DPMS LR-308 or the Armalite AR10. However, it must be used with a DPMS LR-308 bolt assembly, firing pin, cam pin and firing pin retainer.

Tactical Operating System

JPBC-2 Stainless Tactical Carrier with new QPQ black hard coat treatment.

For police tactical duty or any application where absolute reliability is the main criteria, we have our new TOS™ or Tactical Operating System with 416 stainless steel special design carrier that includes forward assist serrations and a dust cover notch. The bore of the JP stainless carriers has a roller burnished finish for frictionless operation with no chance of peeling chrome as in standard mil-spec carriers. The exterior bearing surfaces are hand polished. When properly lubricated, both systems make your rifle feel like it was cycling on ball bearings. Both carriers feature a 100% increase in bearing surface for smoother operation and improved alignment and lower wear in the upper receiver. Both are M15 semi auto configuration in the rear with the mil-spec longer cocking pad in the front for best reliability. This is hands down the best designed and highest quality general purpose carrier on the market. Sold as carrier with installed key or complete bolt/carrier assembly.

JP High Performance Bolt assembly with extractor by Leitner-Wise Defense

Bit by bit, we continue to improve the over-all system of the rifle. Now we finally have a high performance bolt and extractor to match our outstanding bolt carriers. Standard Mil-spec 8620 bolts an extractors have a number of Achilles heels, so to speak. The result is a life expectancy of about 6,000 rounds. In fact, standard bolts will start to show stress cracks on the locking lugs adjacent to the extractor cut after only 3,000 rounds. Other problems include cracking at the cam pin hole and week extractor spring tension.

Typical bolt failure mode next to extractor cut.

The material used in standard bolts is also not the best choice by todays standards. But if you remember that old story that explains why “Mil-spec never dies”, well that applies here also. They make them this way because they’ve always made them this way. Our new bolt is made from SAE 9310 high grade steel. With this material, an extremely hard surface with a tough ductile core resistant to structural failure is provided resulting in a ten fold improvement in life expectancy. This has been observed in actual full auto endurance torture tests. SAE 9310 is the same type of steel used in the tranmission gears of formula one race cars. The high load application of a bolt assembly is the ideal application for this state of the art material.

In addition, many other fine points have been addressed such as incorporating radiuses in all the traditional 90 degree corners of the locking lug areas and other features. This further enhances the ability of the bolt to handle high loads over a much longer life span. The LWD bolt will now be standard equipment on the JP CTR-02 rifles and uppers and an optional upgrade on the JP-15 or JP-15/Vtac rifles. We highly recommend it as a compliment to your JP high performance bolt carriers or any rifle system. It sounds expensive by comparison, but for most people, it is a lifetime part. Look at it this way, it’s three times the price, but lasts 10 times as long. It’s actually a bargain.
